More About is very simple. When you click on an email in Mailroom, Mailroom will put together a brief report telling you more about the person you are communicating with.
This report is displayed next to your email. It includes information such as how many times this person has emailed you in the past and who else in your company has already talked to the person. But that’s just the beginning…
There is no better way to connect with a person than to see them face-to-face. That’s why our More About report now includes a picture. Mailroom is able to show you a picture thanks to a service called Gravatar. Gravatar is a free service that lets anyone upload a small picture of themselves for use on other websites such as blogs, forum and other places.
Gravatar hosts several million pictures right now. They’ve served up over 2 billion photos in the last few years. Not everyone has a Gravatar, but when they do, you’ll see their picture next to their email in Mailroom. You’ll be amazed at how much more connected you feel to your customers when you can see a picture of them.
That last bit of this feature is something I am particularly excited about. Basecamp is a popular project management service from 37signals that we’ve talked about here before. This weekend they just announced their Basecamp API. An API means that other companies can integrate with Basecamp to new and interesting things. I’m happy to tell you that Mailroom is one of, if not the first, application to use this API.
Once you setup Mailroom and Basecamp to work together (it only takes 5 minutes), Mailroom will show you links to any projects in your Basecamp account the person who emailed you is also a part of. This is perfect for anyone who deals with their clients using Basecamp and then handles their customer email through Mailroom.
Anyway, we are excited to roll out this service today. If you want to give it a try, log into Mailroom or create an account. You’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to be helpful to your customers when you have just a little context to help you along.
